Overview
Develop your skills in Engineering (Mechanical) Drafting. This course will develop the skills and knowledge required for a draftsperson producing specialist engineering drawings within an engineering (Mechanical) or manufacturing work environment. You will either be employed, or looking to be employed, within an engineering-related industry directly, or under an Australian Traineeship agreement, looking to work and develop knowledge of engineering (Mechanical) principles for this specialised area, as well as mathematics and appropriate drafting skills.
The program has been designed to cater for learners already employed, with a blend of face to face workshops, blended learning options and workplace learning. Students will detail drawings according to engineering design intent and required Australian Standards (AS), develop skills for the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software functions and apply industry and discipline specific knowledge to produce 2D and 3D models, drawings and schematics for specialised engineering-related areas of industry.
Students will produce prototype of 3D models using 3D printing technology.
The course is developed using AutoCAD and Inventor software initially.
Additionally, the course is also an approved Traineeship in Victoria, with a maximum duration of 36 months.

- Traineeship – Teaching and assessment will be required to be conducted as part of a traineeship

Duration
Full-time: 12 Months, Part-time: 24 Months (Students already with trade qualifications may receive credit transfer where applicable)
Schedule
The course will run from February to November. Full-time students will complete the course (Monday & Tuesday) over a 12 Month period. Part-time students will complete the course (Monday - Year one, Tuesday- Year two) over a 24 Month period. Ongoing applications are available, speak with the teaching department to discuss your commencement date.
Attendance requirements:
- First Year students - One workshop per month (9am-4.30pm) & evening classes (5.30pm-9pm) - Mondays
- Second Year students - One workshop per month (9am-4.30pm) & evening classes (5.30pm-9pm) - Tuesdays

Requirements
You will either be employed, or looking to be employed, within an engineering-related industry directly, or under an Australian Traineeship agreement.
Notebook / computer is required to complete Moodle tasks and project assessment work in learners own time.
Geometry box (compass, set square, ruler, dividers, protractor, pencil, eraser) is to be supplied by the learner.
Calculator to be supplied by the learner.
Field Placement
This course includes the opportunity for optional industry placement. You'll be able to work with an employer to gain hands-on, relevant industry skills. This will help you gain a broader understanding of the industry, and build direct connections and networks with employers.
Please note: Optional placement may be available for interested students with local employers.
Assessment
The assessments will enable students to demonstrate the underpinning knowledge, skills and attributes required to meet the course outcomes. You will be assessed through a combination of practical work skills and theory testing, through completion of projects, class exercises, participation, written assignments and tests.
Other Information
Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting is an approved Traineeship in Victoria and New South Wales, with a maximum duration of 36 months.
The training plan would be delivered within the first 24 months, with the remainder of time on the job.
