There are five companies involved in the challenge, KNAUF, USG Boral, CSR, GIB from New Zealand and BGC, with the first stage of the challenge seeing each company holding their own selection process to identify their top three forklift operators to represent their company in the finals. Additionally, each team has their support coach/mentor.

The challenge was held at the  Exhibition Building, Melbourne 4 October 2018 where the finalists from each company were put through a series of practical and theoretical challenges designed to demonstrate a high level of expertise and knowledge of forklift operations and safety.
