Gypsum Board Manufacturers Association (GBMA) Safety Forklift Challenge

Wodonga TAFE’s Industry Skills & Trades (IST) Steven Lillis and Allan Skinner were once again selected as judges at the Gypsum Board Manufacturers Association (GBMA) Safety Forklift Challenge held in Melbourne this week.
The GBMA Safety Forklift Challenge, now in its seventh year. It is an international event which aims to promote safety within the forklift industry as well as encourage competition and the strive for continual improvement of skills and knowledge in forklift operations.
There are five companies involved in the challenge, KNAUF, USG Boral, CSR, GIB from New Zealand and BGC, with the first stage of the challenge seeing each company holding their own selection process to identify their top three forklift operators to represent their company in the finals. Additionally, each team has their support coach/mentor.
The challenge was held at the Exhibition Building, Melbourne 4 October 2018 where the finalists from each company were put through a series of practical and theoretical challenges designed to demonstrate a high level of expertise and knowledge of forklift operations and safety.
Steve Lillis and Alan Skinner were invited to be judges due to the departments reputation in the training and promotion of safety and effective forklift operations in the industry.
