Koorie Student News
Wednesday, 28 August 2024
My name is Kristylee and I and your Koorie Education Unit (KEU) student intern (student voice)!
What a deadly 7 months it’s been in my position/role so far.
I have had the pleasure of meeting and teaching culture to so many beautiful students and staff at Wodonga TAFE since the start of 2024.
So far this year, we have been running fortnightly cultural sessions at the yarning circle and in the Eddie Kneebone Gallery. We have made clap sticks, done wood burning, and learnt about First Nations people’s traditional symbols. We have done weaving, jewellery making and truth telling sessions. We have had yarning sessions with our Elder-in-Residence Wayne Carroll and have been discussing some dreamtime stories. Along the way, we also learnt how to make Jonny cakes, and they are delicious.
For the rest of the year we will be making message sticks, digging sticks, a coolamon, and more wood burning. We will be knapping (rock work) and discovering the bush tucker on our TAFE site, plus anything else students would like to learn about.
I am in Building W on the McKoy Stret campus, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and would love to hear students ideas and thoughts for our wellbeing here at TAFEmoving forward and into the future. I want to hear what you all would love to see implemented to make your time with Wodonga TAFE the best it possibly can be.
I’m hoping to hear from a diverse range of all students, regardless of race, colour, beliefs, backgrounds or personal preferences.
We could even have some “share and compare” sessions, to discover all our similarities!
After all, we are One People-Human Beings.
Hoping to hear from you all soon.
