Our top tips for creating a perfect TAFE/Life balance.
Wednesday, 7 August 2024
As we approach the end of the year, our study loads tend to increase, with some training courses winding up with final project submissions or even exams. Balancing study and other life commitments can be challenging, but with effective strategies, it’s possible to manage everything successfully. Here are five tips to help you stay on top of your responsibilities:
Make a Plan
Use a planner or digital calendar to map out your study sessions, work hours, and personal commitments. Make sure you leave space to schedule in rest and relaxation time to avoid burnout. List tasks by importance and deadlines, ensuring you focus on high-priority items first. Be aware of your limitations and be realistic about how much you can achieve each day.
Set Realistic Goals
Divide larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Set clear, achievable goals for each study session to stay focused and productive. Take a moment to congratulate yourself when you achieve these goals, whether it be with a little treat or just an acknowledgement of your hard work so far.
Use Time Management Techniques
There are many methods of helping train your brain to focus. One method that is particularly popular right now is the Pomodoro method, where participants work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. Repeat this cycle to maintain optimum concentration and prevent burnout.
Make time for self-care
Ensure you get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and eat nutritious meals to keep your energy levels up. Learn to say no to additional commitments that may interfere with your study or self-care time. Remember, you are human, not a robot!
Seek Support
Inform family, friends, and employers about your study schedule to garner their support and understanding. Take advantage of Wodonga TAFE’s support services if you need them. We have generalist counsellors, welfare support officers, specialist support officers for apprentices or Koorie students. Our academic skills and study support teams are also available to help you through any difficulties you’re having in relation to your course work.
By implementing even just a few of these tips, you can create a balanced approach to managing your studies and other life commitments, giving you the best shot at success.
