The year so far at Mitta Mitta Kids on Campus
Wednesday, 24 July 2024
It has been a busy 2024 beginning for our children to date. We began by caring for our produce and herb gardens, and our giant pumpkin vines. While we didn’t produce many pumpkins, they certainly were thrived under the children’s care and were quite large. The children were so proud of their pumpkin which went to Dartmouth for the Dartmouth Easter Fete where it took pride of place in the ‘Guess the weight” competition. It came in at just under 50kg, WELL DONE KIDS!
Over the season the children continued to pick fresh produce such as beans, snow peas, carrots, strawberries and a variety of herbs. We were able to introduce lots of cooking experiences which included the herbs and vegetables harvested by the children. This is a huge part of our sustainable living program as we were also able to introduce the making of soaps and bath salts using our herbs and even our own recycled paper. Later we introduced a new worm farm which helps to dispose of our green waste while supplying nutrients we can later return back to the gardens.
We would like to thank Jono Dower, (CFA), Steve Harris, (Police), and Naomi Dower, (Ambulance), for spending time with the children and showing them around the local Emergency Services Vehicles, this was a huge enjoyable, learning experience for all the children which they thoroughly enjoyed.
We would also like to thank both The Mitta Primary School and The Eskdale Primary School for hosting our kindergarten children for visits; we greatly appreciate the valuable time offered to our children by staff at both schools. This is a fantastic opportunity which supports our group towards their transition to school in 2025.
Each third Friday of the month sees a visit from our Cultural Support Officer Dawn Shaw who assists in delivering cultural learning to our group. The children have thrived on the expanded experiences on offer, and we thank Dawn for her time.
Both our Kindergarten and Child Care Programs are provided by qualified Teachers and Educators meeting the age, stage development, interests and needs of all our individual children and groups. We strive to provide High Quality Care within a Safe Learning and Play Environment which meets the ACECQA National Quality Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.
Kids On Campus Mitta is currently taking expressions of interest for our Three- and Four-Year Old Kinder Program for 2025.
