Wodonga TAFE Launch "Pledge Wall" For Plastic Free July
Friday, 28 June 2024
Wodonga TAFE's OFF (Our Future Footprint) Group invited staff and students to participate in their launch event for Plastic Free July on Thursday 27 June 2024.
Wodonga TAFE's CEO Phil Paterson led the launch and introduced the "Pledge Wall", which will be situated at Wodonga TAFE's McKoy St campus throughout the month of July. Students and Staff will have the opportunity to place a pledge to reduce their use of single-use plastic - providing a sense of community and support for continued practices in environmental sustainability.
Accompanying the pledge wall is an installation of plastic bottles which represents the 5% of plastic across Australasia that is redistributed to land fill, as not all plastics are recyclable, and therefore the message this year being shared from Plastic Free July Foundation is – Choose to Refuse.
Wodonga TAFE's Environmental Strategic Lead Emma O'Donovan welcomed representatives from Halve Waste to talk on refusing, reusing, and recycling single-use plastic. Halve Waste applauded the impact that this launch will have on Wodonga TAFE's community and urged everyone in attendance to get behind the cause.
Wodonga TAFE and Halve Waste are both engaged in the Green Alliance group, which is a body led by organisations across the Albury Wodonga region, advocating for sustainability practices.
Children from Wodonga TAFE's Kids on Campus were also present and showed their enthusiasm in the various activities and information shared throughout the launch.
