Wodonga TAFE welcomes all-star chef Mark Best to mentor apprentices and students in Commercial Cookery

Tuesday, 30 August 2022

Renowned chef Mark Best is mentoring Wodonga TAFE cookery apprentices and students today, Tuesday 30 August 2022, at The Cube Wodonga, as they prepare for an industry dinner to be held this evening.

A highly-acclaimed industry professional, Mark will work with students enrolled in the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery with Wodonga TAFE, with the students to gain hands-on experience in the preparation and presentation of a dinner menu featuring Margra Lamb, for which Mark is an ambassador.

As a well-renowned chef, Mark is keen to share his skills and knowledge with the up-and-coming future chefs, saying he is a huge advocate for the TAFE sector and the opportunities it offers for all. “Vocational training and education offers many ways for people to achieve”, said Mark. “There are also many opportunities for students in the regional areas, particularly in the service industries.”

Mark also spoke highly of the wealth of local food sources available regionally, saying, “As a chef coming in, I see the abundance of choice.”

Mr Cody May, Commercial Cookery teacher with Wodonga TAFE, is excited to be bringing his students together to work with a top professional in the industry. “This is a wonderful opportunity available locally for our students to learn from such a well-known industry professional - from the very industry that our students are starting their careers in”, said Cody. “The students will be able to further their skills as they work under the guidance of chef Mark Best right here in Wodonga.

Tonight’s ‘Agency and Supply Chain’ dinner will bring together major players in the Agricultural industry and the stock and station supply chain. Presented by Wodonga TAFE in partnership with industry, sponsors include AuctionsPlus, JBS Australia, Margra Lamb, Meat & Livestock Australia, StockCo, and Tattykeel; with support from Ingemira Beef Genetics, RMA Network, and Shanahan’s Livestock Transport.
