Gourmet Food Service on Campus with our Commercial Cookery and Hospitality students
Tuesday, 11 August 2020
Our Commercial Cookery apprentices put their skills to a fast-paced test with an on-campus restaurant service early last week. Food was prepared in the commercial kitchens on campus by the 3rd-year apprentices who are completing Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, with all restaurant services provided by our students enrolled in Certificate III in Hospitality.
The practical classes offered our Commercial Cookery students further opportunities and experience in preparing meals to deadlines whilst ensuring all dishes are presented to a consistently high standard. Our Hospitality students were able to practise their front of house service skills, looking after all customers who attended the takeaway service of food and beverages.
Whilst the kitchen produced selections of delicious Mexican Street Food, the Hospitality students prepared their non-alcoholic drinks to match the vibrancy of the occasion. Lime margarita shaken to order, orange juice sunrise, and a mojito with a mint garnish were fresh and fun!
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in place across Victoria, these delicious food options were only available to Wodonga TAFE staff and students on campus. Bookings for the service were in high demand from staff and students who stepped up to the challenge of purchasing and enjoying restaurant quality meals to go!
The takeaway menu offered an enticing range of choices, all in a Mexican Street Food theme. Dishes on offer included the following:
- Tacos al pastor (pork)
- Grilled Mexican sweet corn
- Spicy prawn and slaw taco
- Fish burrito with beetroot slaw
- Nacho bowl with fajita chicken
- Red rice with vegetables.
