Visual Arts students step up to their very first exhibition for Upstream

Friday, 13 March 2020

Our students in Certificate III & IV in Visual Arts have successfully taken part in their first exhibition, placing pieces of artwork into ‘T’he art of Dogs’, the inaugural community art show held by Creators Artspace Gallery.

The exhibition opened as part of the recent Upstream 2020 Festival on 7 March, and the artwork will remain on display and sale until 20 March in Creators Artspace Gallery, which is located just off the Lincoln Causeway in the Gateway Island precinct.

Exhibitors were asked to submit works that celebrated the canine companions in our lives, and our Visual Arts students submitted a range of art works that captured the essence of dogs in their lives. Their creative art pieces included paintings and sculpture in a variety of mediums such as clay, soap, textiles, and plaster.

Visual Arts teacher Amanda McMillan said the students did extremely well to step up to the challenge of their first exhibition at short notice. “I was so very proud of my students! They turned their pieces out within two weeks, as the sculpture component of their course had only commenced the week prior.”

“Creators Artspace provided us with a great opportunity for our students to be supporting a community show at our local level. To be able to start their industry networking whilst studying is a wonderful start for the students”, said Amanda.
