Happy grads! Celebrating with our students in the Disability Programs at Wodonga TAFE

Tuesday, 26 November 2019

Last week saw our students in the Disability Programs celebrate the success of their achievements! Students from Certificates I & II in Work Education, Certificate I in Transition Education, and the Literacy and Numeracy Basics and Work Skills for Life programs took part in two graduation ceremonies that recognised their participation in activities on and off campus.

A very busy calendar of activities and new experiences throughout the year enabled students to experience a range of practical vocational tasters and community activities; all supported by their teachers and the participation assistants that also help within the programs. Students learned and practised skills for work, volunteering, and living independently, and learned about working together as a team to achieve new goals.

On campus activities also gave students a taste of other Wodonga TAFE courses across different industry areas – such as Engineering, Horticulture, Warehousing, and Cookery. Students also ran their own very successful pop-up stalls on campus to sell their hand-made craft and food creations, raising valuable funds for a range of community organisations and events that included Pink Ribbon Day and The Biggest Morning Tea! A variety of off-campus excursions and community-based activities included presentation of a fashion parade for clients at Westmont Aged Care, cooking meals for clients with Food Without Barriers, taking part in Clean Up Australia Day activities – along with some recreational adventures to the golf course, the deer farm, shopping, and a trip to Melbourne!

The range of Disability Programs on offer at Wodonga TAFE aims to support post-compulsory school age learners with permanent cognitive impairment or intellectual disability. These courses assist students to develop both work and social skills and enables them to explore vocational training opportunities. Click here for further information about Disability Programs at Wodonga TAFE
