Wodonga TAFE Trainers Invited Again!

Wodonga TAFE Transport & Logistics department teachers; Steven Lillis and Allan Skinner were again invited by the Gypsum Board Manufacturers of Australasia (GBMA), and specifically by Winstone Wallboards (GIB) (NZ), to participate as judges in this year’s Trans-Tasman GBMA Safety Challenge.

The event was held in Auckland, New Zealand with some of the largest manufacturers in the Gypsum Board industry taking part; Winstone Wallboards (GIB), USG Boral, CSR and Knauf. This is a highly regarded event in the Plasterboard industry calendar, with the Challenge aiming to highlight best practice, while testing teams driving ability and raise awareness of general safety requirements within the workplace.

The event had a number of different challenges on the day, including a theory test, pre-operational forklift check, two driving events, a team safety event and finally a novelty event at the end that incorporates both fun and finesse. The day gives manufacturers an opportunity to showcase the Gypsum Board industry and highlight the focus that is placed upon safety, both for operators and environment.

Al and Steve have been judges for this event for the past 15 years, helping to ensure all forklift work completed during the challenge is up to the stringent safety standards of the industry. As with previous years, course design was influenced by the Wodonga TAFE teachers, “we’re really lucky to be involved and invited each year to help judge one of the largest events under the GBMA calendar, it just goes to show the reputation that Wodonga TAFE have within the industry for ensuring forklift safety.”
