Wodonga TAFE to welcome SPELD Vic on campus for professional development session

Monday, 29 July 2019

Wodonga TAFE will welcome SPELD Victoria’s Senior Psychologist on campus this week to present a professional development session, Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD) Assessment Reports. The professional development evening will be held on Wednesday 31 July, 6pm-9pm, upstairs in Building B, Room B105, at Wodonga TAFE’s McKoy Street campus.

SPELD Victoria helps Victorians of all ages with Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties to reach their learning potential. The professional development aims to highlight the value and importance of getting a diagnostic assessment for the identification of a specific learning difficulty (Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and Dyslexia) and then unpacks what exactly each section means in the report.

Register for the event via the SPELD Victoria website, https://speld.secure.force.com/apex/EventDetails?Id=a170I00000msmfCQAQ

Wodonga TAFE Participation Assistant, Ms Sarah Allen, is also the convenor of the Albury Wodonga Dyslexia Support Group who worked actively with SPELD Victoria to bring the professional development to the region. Ms Allen said the session would be very valuable to both parents and educators. “Parents will be able to gain a deeper understanding of diagnostic assessments and reports for Specific Learning Difficulties, which will then help them to better support their child’s learning.”

“The information presented will also be of value for teachers, and also for education support staff who are at the forefront of helping students engage with their learning”, continued Ms Allen. Ms Allen completed her Education Support and Disability qualifications with Wodonga TAFE, and in her current role she supports students who are studying in the vocational education and training sector.
