Wodonga TAFE VCAL students win at Victorian ‘Streetshot’ competition

Monday, 29 July 2019

A creative entry from Wodonga TAFE’s VCAL students won at ‘StreetShot’, a state-wide video and photography competition raising awareness about potentially deadly viral hepatitis. The award for ‘Most Outstanding Video’ was awarded to Elyse Hildred, Akira Christie, and Som Arrikij, who are all students in Wodonga TAFE’s VCAL Creative program. Their entry ‘Be Blood Aware’ was announced the winner at Friday’s exhibition launch and gallery opening in Melbourne. The video can be viewed via https://youtu.be/3uFRBblmMXo

Individual still images submitted by students in the VCAL Creative program at Wodonga TAFE were also shortlisted for the ‘People’s Choice Award.’ Teacher Youth and Disability Programs, Ms Sharon Nevinson, travelled to Melbourne with a small group of the TAFE’s VCAL students to take part in the gallery opening and exhibition launch and they were on hand to hear the winning announcements.

“Our VCAL students are very proud of what they have achieved”, said Ms Nevinson. “The students’ success is a great message to young people of how powerful their voices can be in building awareness of important issues.”

‘Winning these awards is also wonderful recognition for the hands-on skills that our students have worked hard to develop throughout their participation in VCAL”, said Ms Nevinson.

‘The Streetshot Exhibition explores what viral hepatitis means to young people across the state expressed through photography and video. StreetShot is part of the annual LIVERability festival which is a celebration for World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness of viral hepatitis.’ http://www.hepvic.org.au
