Wodonga TAFE training in high demand for Hume region

Tuesday, 23 July 2019

It is a fairly common understanding that studying at TAFE can provide you, as a student, with an opportunity to develop useful skills for your chosen industry. More than just theory, you are provided with hands on practical skills throughout training and are exposed to industry prior to graduation. These benefits can ensure that you are job-ready sooner rather than later and helps to build confidence upon completion of the course and therefore better job opportunities. In fact, many of our students can be job-ready in as little as 12 months, depending on which industry you are studying for and level of qualification you are undertaking.

A recent Department of Education and Training report highlighted that in 2017, TAFE in the Hume region accounted for 54% share of market in providing training to students. This figure alone shows that a lot of people already know the value of quality of education that is provided to them when they study at TAFE.

Within this report they also emphasized the industry areas that are showing high demand and growth when it comes to employment opportunities over the next 5 years. The top ten industries listed for the Hume region were:

  • Sales assistants & cashiers
  • Kitchenhands
  • Waiters
  • Child carers
  • Aged and disabled carers
  • Retail managers
  • Commercial cleaners
  • Bar attendants and Baristas
  • Fast Food Cooks

Wodonga TAFE can offer training that covers each of these top ten industries that are experiencing growth in the job market. Our courses range from Certificate II right through to Diploma levels and also have available Apprenticeships and Traineeships for some industries.

However, there are also many other industry areas that are experiencing huge growth that are not amongst the top ten, so should you have a dream career in mind that is in a different industry to these, you still have so many options.

One thing you can do, is contact our Skills and Job Centre staff on 1300 698 233 and book yourself an appointment with one of the careers counsellors. They will be able to advise you of other industries that show a growing amount of job prospects or better yet, they can write you a tailored pathway plan to get started in the industry of your dreams.

Don’t forget, Wodonga TAFE will once again be offering places in line with the Governments FREE TAFE initiative. This was hugely successful in 2019, offering students the opportunity to study with little to no costs incurred for enrolment in particular courses that lined up with industries that have a high demand for skilled workers.

If you have an interest in a particular industry and considering studying next year, then don’t hesitate to get your name down on the wait-list for a course for 2020. By calling our customer service team on 1300 698 233, advising them which course or courses you are interested in, will ensure you are placed in the queue and are among the first notified when the course becomes available for enrolment.
