Secondary Students Engage With TAFE Activities
Tuesday, 2 April 2019
Wodonga TAFE currently offers a School Experience Day program which runs each term and focuses on operating particular industry based activities for Secondary School students. This program helps to give students an understanding of the Vocational Education system and the invaluable skills that are developed throughout study in a fun and engaging environment.
Our Term 1 School Experience Day was held in February of this year and involved the students from Years 11-12 from Victorian Secondary Schools including Corryong, Rutherglen, Belvoir, Victory, CCW Wodonga and Wodonga Senior Secondary College.
The students had the option to participate in two of the five industry sector programs that were offered. They could pick from Trades (Engineering and Building Design), Services (Bakery and Personal Presentation), Health (First Aid and Allied Health) Horticulture (Arboriculture) or Logistics.
Their schools arrange transportation to and from the Wodonga campus and TAFE staff are ready and waiting for their arrival to group them into their activity groups and lead them to their chosen programs. There is plenty of fun and games held throughout the day, they are able to get their hands dirty and immerse themselves into their chosen activities and they get a lunch break in between to mingle in the beautiful grounds of the Wodonga TAFE campus.
There are still three more dates for upcoming School Experience Days to occur prior to the end of the year. Term 2 will be held on 24 May and involves NSW Secondary School students from years 11-12. Term 3 is set for 23 August for Victorian Secondary School students from years 9-10 and Term 4 on 8 November is for NSW Secondary Students years 9-10.
“Feedback about the School Experience Days has been overwhelmingly positive, we are lucky to have such wonderful staff who arrange these fantastic days and assist in making students feel comfortable and welcomed onto our campus,” tells Jen Gordon (Manager Engagement).
“The programs are perfectly planned and executed so well, giving students lots of fun activities and a first-hand look at what study after secondary school could be for them.”
