Community Services sector Expo connecting student workforce with industry

Wednesday, 20 February 2019

Service providers from across the Community Services sector visited Wodonga TAFE’s McKoy Street campus to share their industry perspective with the up-and-coming workforce.

Students completing the Community Services and Disability qualifications at Wodonga TAFE had the opportunity to hear first-hand from service providers in our local region at the Community Service Sector Expo on campus.

Community Services teacher, Ms Kate O’Toole, said the industry engagement expo had been arranged to ensure the students were able to make early connections with their chosen industry. “This is the industry sector where our students will be seeking volunteering options, placement, and future employment, so it is critical they gain an early understanding of the many opportunities ahead of them.”

“Inviting the service providers to take part in this event on campus provides both students and service representatives with an informal setting where they can network and discuss their industry”, said Ms O’Toole. “The community service sector is a very diverse industry with a wide variety of employment opportunities available.”

Students were able to meet representatives from across the community services industry, including government and private sector services such as the Department of Health & Human Services, Life Without Barriers, Envision Ability, Junction Support Services, Beyond Housing, Mind Australia, Mercy Connect, Merriwa Industries, Intereach, Anglicare, and Upper Murray Family Care.
