Wodonga TAFE proud to support Defence Community Organisation

Wednesday, 30 January 2019

Supporting the important services that are provided by Hume Veterans Information Centre is just one way that Wodonga TAFE is able to give back to our community, as we rise to the challenge of setting the benchmark for community leadership in our local region.

Last Thursday 24 January 2019 marked the 16th year of Wodonga TAFE’s support to the Hume Veterans Information Centre (HVIC) with the provision of shirts for HVIC volunteers. HVIC provides support, advocacy and information to Defence, Ex-Defence personnel, and their families. Volunteers run the Centre, which has been in operation for over 20 years, providing a critical support network for Veterans and their families.

Steven Lillis, Wodonga TAFE Warehousing, Civil Construction and OH&S Team Leader, who assisted in the organising of the shirts said, “We are proud to once again support an organisation like the Hume Veterans Information Centre. We recognise the important role that the Centre plays in supporting Veterans and their families.”

“Defence Veterans are a very important part of our community, and we are happy to provide some support in seeing them looked after.”

Hume Veterans Information Centre Chairman, Wayne Taylor said, “Relationships such as the one we have with Wodonga TAFE help us provide the services we do. We are very grateful for the support given by Wodonga TAFE over the past 16 years.”

Wodonga TAFE’s partnership with the HVIC has remained strong over the years, due in part to the strength of the broader relationship between Wodonga TAFE and the Australian Defence Force. Wodonga TAFE has a strong history of employing veterans across all sectors of the Institute as well as key training relationships with the ADF.

Alongside two other Victorian TAFE partners, Box Hill Institute and Chisholm Institute, Wodonga TAFE was successful in winning a major national ADF contract in 2018 to deliver key technical trade training for Defence personnel. This 5-year contract complements existing training provided to ADF Medics at the Army School of Health.
