Recognition of Prior Learning for Veterans Pilot Program
Our VLO can offer their support, lived experience and
guidance on the best approach to translate the knowledge and experience you
have gained in Defence into a current qualification or complete units towards a
qualification through the Recognition of Prior Learning process.
The VLO will be your conduit between the education
departments of Wodonga TAFE and you to ensure that your unique experience is
understood along with how your documents provide the evidence. With experience
in VET training the VLO understand what the assessor needs and how you can
provide the evidence and demonstrate your knowledge.
Specialist Services
We deliver practical, industry-relevant training across a range of industries from entry-level certificates to diplomas. With our partnerships, we can support you through pathways to higher education. With a strong connection to Defence with our contracted training delivery, Wodonga TAFE understands the unique experience and training that Defence members have gained.
The VLO can also assist in supporting the families of veterans or current serving spouses to develop their own career pathways. The VLO understands the complexity of Military life and the barriers that can be faced by posting cycles and managing family life. With Wodonga TAFE’s on-campus childcare facility, we can help you get into the workforce sooner.
We have direct connections to the Australian Government, Australian Defence Force (ADF), Ex-service Organisations (ESO), ADF Transition Cell (ADFTC), Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and ADF Reserves. The VLO has a current Defence Common Access Card and visits sites to assist members at Latchford, Bandiana, and Gaza Ridge Barracks as well as willing to travel to other Victorian bases to ensure you succeed in your goals.
Program funding
As part of your skills recognition, understanding, interpreting and recognition of your prior Defence training and experience is paramount. Our VLO can offer guidance and discuss any knowledge gaps with assistance from career counsellors. To help with this and demonstrate that Veteran skills are sought after, the program is funded to complete up to twenty scholarships for Veterans that enrol.
With access and understanding of the financial assistance available through DVA or your Defence Force Transition Program finding the best path for you to gain new skills and knowledge to broaden your employment options is as easy as connecting with the VLOs network of ESOs and support elements.
Concession fees
Ex-Defence Force personnel who hold a Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) or Gold card may be eligible for concession fees for TAFE courses. This means that Veterans (if included on the DVA card) may be able to retrain or upgrade their existing skills with Wodonga TAFE.
Gallipoli Scholarship Fund
The Gallipoli Scholarship Fund provides financial support to those entering a diploma or advanced diploma at TAFE, subject to eligibility criteria and selection. This is a third-party scholarship, external to Wodonga TAFE. To learn more visit: Gallipoli Scholarship Fund - Application
