CAN Router
|
Controller Area Network (CAN) Router
|
CAN router is usually a trailer-based module, primarily designed to “split” the signal and allow communication between 2 or more trailers that have TEBS fitted.
Additionally, the CAN router can act as a repeater for longer multi trailer combinations, as the electronic signal needs to be boosted every 40 metres.

EBL
|
Electronic Brake Limiting
|
The EBL function controls slip on the rear drive axle wheels by comparing their speed with front axle wheel speed.
Control unit input data include wheel rpm and braking pressure as recorded by the pressure sensor installed upstream of the rear axle ABS modulators.
The control unit uses these parameters to compute vehicle speed, vehicle deceleration, rear axle wheel slip and minimum specified deceleration.
The EBL function is activated (the rear ABS modulators maintain a set pressure) when the driver applies a braking force that is too high for vehicle load conditions, i.e. when the rear axle slip and vehicle deceleration thresholds are exceeded.

SWB rigids
|
Short Wheel Base Rigids
|
ADR35/06 mandates VSF for on-road trucks either prime movers or short wheel base rigids with 2 or 3 axles only where SWB rigids = Cab over Engine (COEs) with WB 4.5m or conventional with WB 5.0m

TEBS
|
Trailer Electronic Braking Systems
|
Trailer Electronic Braking control systems are a development of trailer antilock (ABS) braking systems, which in turn are a development of pneumatic brake control systems. Trailer EBS is a pneumatic control valve with on-board computer and sensors and solenoids, some of the benefits of TEBS:
Electronic actuation of the trailer brakes
• Anti-Lock Function (ABS)
• Integrated electronic load sensing
• Trailer Roll Stability function for Roll

TRM
|
Trailer Road or Train/Relay Module or Trailer Response Management system
|
The TRM system for a truck, takes the brake air pressure signal from close to the brake treadle valve and converts this to an electronic signal used by the EBS control system to proportionally apply the trailer brakes. This electronic signal is in addition to the pneumatic brake signal sent by the prime mover, and allows the trailer to brake quicker, thereby reducing the combination’s stopping distance.
The TRM system for trailer is also referred to as a CAN Repeater. Trailer TRM act as a repeater for longer multi trailer combinations and is also capable of ‘splitting’ the signal to allow communication between two or more EBS modules
