Diploma of Arboriculture

This course is ideal for those already well-versed in arboriculture - whether you have completed lower-level qualifications already or have significant practical work experience in the field. Successful completion of this qualification will provide individuals with a broad range of specialised knowledge and skills in varied contexts to undertake manager and technical consulting roles in the arboriculture industry and as a pathway for further learning required for specialist technical consulting roles in the industry. Students will gain in-depth knowledge on tree identification, diagnosing tree disorders & defects and how to use this knowledge to prepare arborist reports for clients.

SCHEDULE

Course Commencement: 10 February 2025.
Block Release Days: Tuesday and Wednesday (2 Days a month x 8 Blocks a year)

The remaining study is completed online, at home, or in the workplace with self-directed learning.

Certificate III in Arboriculture

Developed in consultation with industry, this course will provide you with a range of specialised knowledge and skills needed to care for, prune and remove trees. Develop a career involving physical strength and fitness, whilst safely and effectively tending to client needs and environmental issues. Whether you’re new to arboriculture or have been in the industry for a period of time, your knowledge, skills and ability to operate safely, effectively, and efficiently will certainly be improved with this course.

SCHEDULE

Days/Time: 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Thursday.

Delivered as a block release on 4 days per month (8 blocks per year).
Students must complete self-directed project work in order to successfully complete the course.

The above traineeship or apprenticeship courses are available to employed trainees or apprentices only.

SHORT COURSES

Chainsaw Training

This course covers the units FWPCOT2239 - Trim and Cut Felled Trees and FWPCOT2237 - Maintain Chainsaws (equivalent to level 1 chainsaw operation). This training will provide you with knowledge and skills to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw for trimming and cutting fallen trees using a range of cutting techniques. You will learn to identify cross cutting requirements, prepare and maintain equipment, assess trees and plan cutting and trim and cross cut safely and efficiently.

Introduction to Arboriculture Skill Set

This course is a prerequisite for undertaking the Diploma of Arboriculture. The skillset is aimed at those students who have several years of experience in industry, but they either don’t have qualifications or their existing qualifications are no longer deemed equivalent.

Operate a Pole Saw

Gain the practical skills for operation and maintenance of a pole saw as a national competency. This training is useful to get additional skills for the Arboriculture and Horticulture industries.
