TAFE and employers supporting women to enter the transport industry.

Wodonga TAFE and Transport Women Australia Limited have enjoyed a great partnership for many years.

Our partnership focuses on filling skill gaps and labour shortages within the transport and logistics industries. This is achieved by diversifying the workforce by providing training and education opportunities to women, to bolster the sector. Before this partnership, women heavy vehicle drivers made up approximately 2% of the industry. This now stands at approximately 10%.

To participants, this meant having a great support structure and network around them, and plenty of theoretical and practical training (nothing beats time behind the wheel!).

For organisations, it meant shifting the culture of the industry to be more accepting of a diverse workforce, and putting in place a working environment that encourages women to join their organisation.

Wodonga TAFE and Transport Women Australia Limited have successfully partnered to deliver the Women Driving Transport Careers program to increase the number of female heavy vehicle drivers, and the Dream Accelerator program to provide training and pathways into leadership or management roles in the sector.
