Building connection through food
FoodShare Precinct is a partnership of local community organisations, led by Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare, which will deliver a suite of co-located services and integrated educational programs based around the sourcing, preparation and distribution of emergency food to North East Victorian Communities.
The Precinct will connect education, community, local business and food producers in a dynamic model that will promote economic recovery and resilience of local communities impacted by drought, bushfire and COVID-19 while minimising food waste, promoting sustainability and encouraging good nutrition across the region.
FoodShare Precinct will incorporate:
- Food rescue, preparation and distribution – the Hub will provide the facilities necessary for a fair and accessible emergency food distribution system. Food rescue, sorting, storage and distribution operations will be coordinated through Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare from the purpose-built facility.
- Education – a wide range of educational programs will be embedded in the daily operations of the Precinct, providing immersive, practical and applied learning opportunities, meaningful work experience and an opportunity for students to learn and work alongside industry and community partners.
- Support services – meeting spaces and consultation rooms will be accessed by a range of support services to ensure that comprehensive and holistic support is available to those accessing the facility
- Social enterprise – the facility would support social enterprise initiatives, providing open plan spaces for pop up outlets that support the principles of sustainability, reduced waste and repurposed food.
