About Wodonga Institute of TAFE
Wodonga Institute of TAFE is located in the twin cities of Albury Wodonga, on the border of Victoria and New South Wales. This area is one of the fastest-growing economies in regional Australia.
Founded in 1986, Wodonga Institute has become integral to the growth and sustainability of the regional cities it serves, delivering over 2.5 million student contact hours in training every year. This influence is made possible through a range of partnerships and links that include industry organisations, other registered training organisations, universities, local chambers of commerce, and community organisations. The Institute services the City of Wodonga, the shires of Alpine, Indigo, and Towong, and the local government areas of Albury, Greater Hume, and Corowa in New South Wales. However, Wodonga Institute's reach extends much further. It delivers training in every mainland state and territory of Australia.
Wodonga Institute was judged Australian Large Training Provider of the Year in 2008 due to its commitment to lead practice and excellence in the delivery of vocational education and training to highly diverse groups of learners who are drawn from a wide range of industry and the community. Wodonga Institute's teachers are passionate. They have either worked in or are currently working in industry, and are driven by a need to share their knowledge with others.
Wodonga Institute of TAFE provides practical, hands-on training and education from Certificate I level to advanced diploma level in a wide range of areas. Its specialist training centres including the National Industrial Skills Training Centre and Motorsports Training Australia, and its specialist courses including the broadcasting and hospitality courses are provided in state-of-the-art, industry-simulated training facilities.
The Institute is strategically committed to engage in partnerships and formal understandings with other Institutes of TAFE, registered training organisations (RTOs), and institutions of higher education. This opens the way for learners to use credits from their TAFE qualifications towards a degree, and in some cases, guarantees entry to a university degree course. The combination of a TAFE qualification and a degree provides graduates with a well-rounded education that encompasses practical TAFE training with the academic underpinning knowledge provided that is provided by the completion of a degree. This also means that graduates from Wodonga Institute have a head-start in their careers, being able to start work in industry while they complete their university degrees.
Wodonga Institute's teachers continually receive the seal of approval from their students for their commitment, their industry knowledge, and their willingness to 'go the extra mile' to help students achieve their goals. Students consistently report high levels of satisfaction with their learning experiences at the Institute. In 2008, 97 per cent of students were satisfied or highly satisfied with their learning experience, and 99 per cent of those surveyed indicated that they would recommend Wodonga Institute to others. Over 91 per cent of employers were satisfied or very satisfied with training the provided by Wodonga Institute. Of those employers surveyed, 97 per cent indicated that they intended to approach the Institute again for staff training in the future. Over 96 per cent of graduates are employed following the completion of their studies at Wodonga Institute.
