Wodonga TAFE student and apprentice baker, Bryce Johnstone, recently competed at the national World Skills competition held in Brisbane. Over 500 students from 50 different trades met to compete at the Brisbane Exhibition Centre between the 7th and 10th May 2010.
Wodonga TAFE’s students are doing their bit for the environment by becoming one of the first ‘sustainable classrooms’ on the Border. The 16 Diploma of Events students participated in the experiment with the help of teacher and environmentalist, Steve Onley, who said “the students calculated their carbon footprint and then calculated how much offsetting they would need to do to make the six-week subject carbon neutral.”
The students at the Retro Café are having a community festival from 17-21 May to celebrate local youth. Please help show your support by dropping in for lunch or a coffee any week day and making a donation to their charity, Beyond Blue. The students have managed to organise a live broadcast by Triple J radio from the Café on Monday 17th and they have also organised live music on the Thursday night. There are plenty of activities for younger children as well, so parents take your kids along to enjoy the fun while you relax with a coffee!
